Q. Can I submit a song I have covered by another musician or band. For example I have a smooth Jazz version of a song Paul McCartney wrote will you play it? Other stations play my covers of other musicians song so why not KJAZZ Radio UK?
|
| A. The answer is no unless you have the agreement of the original copyright owner and sign a contract with KJAZZ Radio UK stating that. Other stations have different royalty licenses and therefore may be in a position to play your version of another musicians song.Since its launch KJAZZ Radio UK has discovered that promoting original new material is exciting for the listener and is a great way for musicians to get exposure. There are enough stations playing the same old standards and household name musicians. Were doing something fresh, different and chilled to sooth a stressed world. We may in the future mix in name artists but this will be an exception rather than the rule. At this time as we will change our royalty agreement we would then accept cover songs.
Easy question to ask if in doubt is…Did I write and compose it without sampling known songs? If the answer is Yes – then KJAZZ Radio UK may play it if selected. |
